“Treatment of waste water by natural low energy/chemical processes is an area that sadly has been neglected in Australia until recently. Drought and associated waste water reuse is now a reality and well engineered processes such as K.E.W.T. certainly provide an alternative to expensive conventional treatments and even enable existing treatment plants to be unloaded to put off capital upgrades, with the added benefits of reused water anywhere in the sewer network by Water Mining.
Small towns and communities in Australia will greatly benefit from low maintenance, low technology natural treatment systems and it is my belief that they are the way of the future.”

“The K.E.W.T. system was developed by one of my post-graduate students, Mr Ben Kele, and has since been commercialised with GBG Project Management Pty Ltd.
The system underwent an intensive testing and monitoring regime by ourselves and the data, collected from 7 trial sites throughout Central Queensland, over a 5 year period, were submitted to the E.P.A. as the basis for approval for use in Queensland.
Through the use of carefully selected plants and stringent design parameters, the system not only treats effluent to a tertiary stage, but it disposes of the water through a series of garden beds, using carefully selected plants
It can also be modified to allow for restricted re-use of water, such is the quality to which waster is treated.”

“…We found out about this through the Emerald Shire Council. From there we got involved with CQU and DNR (Department of Natural Resources) and the system developed from there until its completion. Its working extremely well and we also have the EPA license, for human contact with the water for fossicking…”
