Redland City Council chose to implement the Kinder Environmentally Wastewater Treatment (K.E.W.T) system as an alternative to a traditional sewage treatment plant as it operates at a fraction of the cost and provides multiple benefits for the community.

The garden beds near this sign form part of the wastewater treatment plant (the K.E.W.T system). The innovative and environmentally sensitive design combines biological treatment and evapotranspiration trenches in a single fully sealed system. The system treats the wastewater to a very high standard through biological processes and promotes the evapotranspiration of wastewater.

Evapotranspiration is the combination of two natural processes; evaporation of liquid water from soil and transpiration of water from the leaves of plants into the atmosphere.
